It’s always nice to receive an early Christmas present – and it looks like James Gunn is preparing to give us one in the form of a trailer for his new Superman movie.
Yes, you read that right: the first teaser for Gunn’s Superman According to reports, the film will be released this week. That means the first trailer for the first DC Cinematic Universe (DCU) movie could be released publicly anytime between today (December 16) and Friday, December 20.
Industry insiders say that’s incredibly unlikely Superman‘s first teaser launches today. Last Friday, Jeff Sneider, co-host of the Hot Mic podcast suggested that Gunn and co-DC Studios chief Peter Safran would hold a press screening for the trailer on December 16. Over the weekend, X/Twitter user ReevesBatVerse captured an image of a Warner Bros. theater marquee. Pictures, confirming that this would be the case. shown behind closed doors, albeit also to the film crew.

Unfortunately, it’s currently unclear when the rest of us will see the first official footage of the DCU Chapter One movie. In an article posted last Friday (December 13), Term claimed the teaser will be made public “early next week”, but that suggestion was disputed by an industry leak DanielRPKwho says it won’t arrive until Thursday December 19th. Personally, I hope it’s the former – after all, who wants to wait an extra three days for the teaser when select journalists have already seen it?
Anyway, whenever Superman‘s first trailer drops, this is our first real look at Gunn’s latest feature film. Only a few official revelations have been revealed so far. The first of these came in March, when Gunn unveiled the new, cleaner name for him Superman movie – until then the official title, which was announced as part of the DCU Chapter One line-up in January 2023, Superman: Legacy. Two months later, Gunn revealed the first image of David Corenswet’s eponymous superhero in his Superman suit and seemingly the film’s main villain.
There have been other glimpses of it Supermanalthough. During the months-long shoot of the film, images captured by the press (on June 25) gave us our first look at the costume worn by Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific, aka one of Clark Kent/Superman’s superhero allies. A few days later, other leaked photos revealed that Krypto the Superdog would also make an appearance Supermanwith Gunn later confirming this in a cute post on X/Twitter. Then, in early July, even more leaked footage debuted featuring two more heroes in the form of Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and their curious ties to Sean Gunn’s villainous Maxwell Lord.
Gunns Superman film will be released in theaters worldwide on July 11, 2025. He should also prepare for a big superhero showdown in mid-2025, as one of Marvel’s most anticipated new films of next year – The Fantastic Four: First Steps – will also be released just two weeks later.
