Alison Hammond was emotional when she realized it was the anniversary of her mother’s death live during This Morning on Friday.

The 47-year-old host was hosting a segment on superstitions with the Speakmans when she recalled the poignant date.

Alison’s mother, Maria, who was from Guyana, tragically died in January 2020 of lung and liver cancer.

‘I just realized it’s January 13. This is the date my mother passed away… in bed 13. And we buried her on February 13th. And it was a lovely funeral. It literally just occurred to me,” Alison said.

Alison was comforted by her co-host Dermot O’Leary, who asked if she was okay after sharing the news. She replied: ‘Yes’.

The Big Brother star suffered a double tragedy in 2020 when his father Clifford, who lived in Jamaica, passed away just six months after Alison’s mother died.

Announcing the sad news that his mother had passed away, the former Big Brother star shared a series of photos of his mother, one of which showed her smiling in a yellow top while sitting on a hospital bed.

Alison wrote: ‘I dedicate Valentine’s Day to my beautiful and wonderful Mother Mary, who passed away from lung and liver cancer.’

“Yesterday my family and I celebrated her incredible life and buried her in a beautiful ceremony that she would have been proud of.

‘Thank you mom for giving me the strength to carry on knowing that you are well and with God in heaven now. I will always remember you and try to make you proud. I love you mom.’

The star added on Twitter: “RIP my best friend and Living Angel please come into my dreams.”

Tragically, Alison’s father died four months later and Alison shared on social media that she didn’t get to spend as much time with him as she would have liked.

He said he was “sad” not being able to attend Clifford’s funeral and was left with “a sense of loss and emptiness”.
