Alison Hammond made an emotional apology to her son for ‘not always being there’ as she received the Role Model Award at the MBCC in Birmingham.
The 49-year-old presenter was among the stars attending the Multicultural Business & Community Champion Awards, held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Saturday.
Alison scooped the Spiring Honorary Role Model Award at the event, where she was joined by her son Aidan.
The This Morning and Great British Bake Off host gave a moving speech as she collected her award, stating that all her hard work had been for Aidan.
“I love your son so much and I’m sorry I haven’t always been there, but I’ll be honest with you, the reason I did it was just for you,” she said.
Wiping away a tear, Alison added: “I’m getting emotional because I don’t normally get recognized for things like this.

“So thank you for acknowledging me, it means the absolute world to me.”
Alison was introduced on stage by soul legend and fellow West Midlander Beverley Knight.
It comes as Alison, who shares her son with her ex Noureddine Boufaied, is set to star alongside Aidan in a new BBC travelogue series in which the pair discover Florida, airing next month.
The crowd in Birmingham cheered Alison on as she added: “I’ve been working so hard. When they told me I couldn’t do things, I did them.
‘Don’t let anyone stop you, if you have a dream, go for it.’
She added, “And you can be unapologetically yourself, just like me, your authentic self, you don’t have to change for anyone.”
Alison made for a glamorous evening with a chic black figure-hugging dress – the same choice as award winner Judi Love.
The pair smiled together on the red carpet as they showed off their identical outfits.

After Alison’s acceptance speech, Judi paid tribute to her for always having her back, saying: ‘When I started out and people told me I couldn’t do it, it was Alison who told me not to give up and to keep going. ‘
Speaking at the event, Beverley Knight Brummie praised Alison as ‘one of our own’. “Being from the West Midlands it’s great to see Alison on the TV every morning,” she said.
The ceremony also celebrated legends Annie Lennox, Levi Roots and Chelsea’s first black player Paul Canoville, who overcame bigotry, disease and addiction.
Alison recently revealed her son Aidan is good at giving relationship advice to her lover David Putman, 26, but admits she shares too much.
She made a rare comment about her love life after her romance with her toyboy boyfriend David was revealed earlier this year.
Alison and Aidan appeared in a video on social media last month as part of a teaser for new game show Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening.

In the teaser clip, the pair were asked certain questions and had to vote on who was better at each topic, with the question being: ‘Who is better at giving advice?’
Aidan believed he was better at advice, which initially shocked Alison before she then partly agreed, saying: ‘When it comes to relationship advice, you’re very good!’
But she added: ‘But when it comes to career advice, I’m not sure!’
They were then asked who was the biggest oversharer and both voted for Alison – with Alison admitting: ‘Yes, maybe I’m sharing a bit too much. I’ll probably share too much on the show!’
