Alison Hammond admits to feeling ‘upset’ with Great British Bake Off star Paul Hollywood while filming the New Year special

Alison Hammond has expressed her frustration with Paul Hollywood during the filming of The Great New Year’s Bake Off over his outfit choice, which she said dampened the festive fun.

Following The Great Christmas Bake Off, which saw Emmerdale star Chris Bisson crowned champion, preparations for the Hogmanay-themed New Year’s episode were in full swing.

The special episode sees the return of former Scottish contestants including Nicky, Peter, Lea, Kevin, James and Norman, who are tasked with creating bakes inspired by their heritage.

The New Year’s show will feature a ceilidh band, adding to the Scottish celebrations in the iconic Bake Off tent.

While the judges and presenters embraced the Scottish theme with tartan outfits, Alison revealed she was disappointed by Paul Hollywood’s kilt attire.

Speak with Birmingham Live she said: ‘Oh, it was brilliant, it was so much fun. I get up and start dancing. I’ll be there right away.

‘Paul wore a kilt… and so did Prue. Well, she was wearing a plaid skirt… And Paul was wearing his pants underneath. We were really upset!’

The competitors faced challenges such as making a traditional Signature bake, a Scottish shortbread Technical and a cranachan-inspired Showstopper with oats, whisky, honey, raspberries and cream.

Reflecting on the reunion with previous contestants, Alison said: ‘Nicky from the last series was back and it was lovely to see her again. They were my first Bake Off babies.’

This episode followed The Great Christmas Bake Off, where soap stars including Natalie Cassidy, Dean Gaffney and Sheree Murphy competed for festive baking glory, providing plenty of humor and heartfelt moments.

A standout moment came from Natalie Cassidy, who shared a hilarious birth tip she got from EastEnders legend June Brown, saying: ‘Honey, it’s like pooping a melon.’

It comes after Alison revealed she achieved her staggering 11 stone weight loss without the use of Ozempic.

The This Morning presenter, 49, decided to lose weight following the death of her mother, who raised concerns about Alison’s pre-diabetic diagnosis.

But Alison, who weighed 60 pounds at her heaviest, has now revealed that her key to success was simply cutting out sweets, fatty foods and exercising with a personal trainer.

“So I didn’t want to use them, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t do so in the future, and I certainly wouldn’t look down on anyone who did.”

She added: ‘My mum had type 2 diabetes and she was worried about me, so when I found out I was pre-diabetic it was scary.

“I thought, ‘I have to be an adult about this.’ The snacking had to stop – and the fatty foods.

‘I see my personal trainer twice a week and I have a few weights in my bedroom. I walk, I stretch and sometimes I do a little yoga.’

Amid her body transformation, the broadcaster opted earlier this year to sell her old size 26 dress for a charity in memory of her late mother, who passed away from liver cancer in 2020.

The star has been open about her weight problems over the years, previously admitting she was ‘so ashamed’ of her weight when she weighed more than 20 stone. She joined Weight Watchers in 2019 to focus on her health.

Alison admits she is harassed about her size every day, but refuses to slim down for others as she likes to take up ‘a little extra space in the world’.
