Alien 9 is scheduled to begin production in Budapest later this week with Cailee Spaeny leading the cast of the sci-fi horror film.

It has been confirmed that the new movie in the Alien franchise is scheduled to enter the production stage this coming Thursday.

News about the upcoming sci-fi horror movie broke earlier this month, and according to Varietythe project will be shot in Budapest.

The feature, which stars Cailee Spaeny, will serve as the ninth entry in the long-running franchise.

The news outlet reported that the film would center on “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

The original Alien film, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Sigourney Weaver, was released in 1979.

The feature was a hit with viewers and spawned a long-running media franchise made up of numerous sequels and prequels, video games, and other media projects.

The most recent entry in the franchise, titled Alien: Covenant, was released in 2017.

Several follow-up projects were discussed after the film’s debut, though nothing was confirmed until last year.

FX has also picked up an upcoming TV series, and it’s scheduled to start filming later this year, according to rant on screen.

The development of the upcoming project was previously revealed to the public by the hollywood reporter Last March.

At that time, it was announced that Fede Alvarez had signed on to write and direct the next feature.

20th Century Studios President of Production Steve Asbell spoke to the outlet, recalling that the film was greenlit “purely on the strength of Fede’s tone.”

The entertainment industry figure also recalled that “it was a really good story with a lot of characters you hadn’t seen before.”

Ridley Scott is also expected to serve as one of the executive producers of the upcoming feature.
