A major wildfire is spreading through a national park near Alice Springs, which was devastated by fire earlier this year.
Firefighters tried to bring the fire in Tjoritja West MacDonnell National Park under control on Saturday.
Bushfires NT described the fire as uncontrolled and burning on the north and east sides of Simpsons Gap and towards Hamilton Downs Youth Camp, as well as east towards Alice Springs.
“Effective containment strategies are not yet in place,” Bushfires NT said in a warning.

“In the interest of public safety, Parks and Wildlife are closed: Sections 1 and 2 of Larapinta Trail, The Woodland Trail, The Simpsons Gap Bike Path, The Hell Line Mountain Bike Trail.”
The fire has been burning for over a day now and spread after it started as a controlled reduction burn.
Earlier this year, a fire broke out in 20 percent of Tjoritja West MacDonnell National Park.
In March, more than 100,000 acres burned in the MacDonnell Ranges area, fueled by warm weather.
