A young child has tragically died in hospital after being trapped in a house that went up in flames in Alice Springs.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at Thorold Court in Larapinta just after 10.30am on Thursday after reports of a house fire.
Firefighters forced the burning home after a report of a child inside.
They searched the property and dragged an unconscious child out of the house as emergency services began CPR on the young patient.
The child was rushed to Alice Springs Hospital, where she sadly died
St John Ambulance paramedics rushed the child to Alice Springs Hospital, where they later died.
The detective and the fire service have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
Residents and motorists were urged to avoid the area as firefighters battled the blaze.
“Smoke from this fire may affect visibility and fire crews may be working close to the road,” read a warning from NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services.
