Alice Springs couple robbed at knifepoint in their own home by a gang who demanded money, cigarettes and alcohol

An elderly couple woke up to a gang of knife-wielding burglars prowling through their Alice Springs home.

The five men armed with ‘edgy weapons’ had kicked in the front door of their home on Lovegrove Drive in Araluen just after 5am on Sunday.

They demanded money, cigarettes and alcohol from the 73-year-old man at the home, while one of the knifemen held a knife to the throat of his partner, 72.

The men brought alcohol to a red Holden Commodore driven by a female accomplice who was waiting across the road, with the ordeal lasting 30 minutes.

The 72-year-old woman was eventually able to escape through the back door before calling Triple-Zero.

Norther Territory Police have urged anyone who witnessed suspicious behavior in the area at the time to contact police immediately.
