Alica Schmidt, dubbed the ‘world’s sexist athlete’, crashes OUT of the Olympic women’s 4x400m relay heats as Germany fail to reach the final

  • Jamaica was the best, while Germany finished in a disappointing seventh place
  • Alica Schmidt took over from Skadi Schier for her leg of the race
  • Schmidt realized her Olympic dream after participating in the mixed 4×400 meter relay

Alica Schmidt, who has been dubbed the ‘world’s sexiest athlete’, failed to qualify for the final of the women’s 4x400m relay with Germany after finishing seventh in their race.

Jamaica was fastest with a brilliant time of 3:24.92, while the Netherlands, Ireland and Canada also advanced after a thrilling race on the final straight.

Only the top four from the second heat qualified, while the rest of the competitors – including Schmidt and her three teammates – were brutally eliminated.

Schmidt took over from Skadi Schier before starting her stage, but a slow start from Germany meant they were out of the race.

The 25-year-old realised her Olympic dream last week when she took part in the mixed 4x400m relay, but was soon embroiled in drama in Paris.

Surprisingly enough, the selection committee had chosen her over her colleague in the 400 meters, Luna Bulmahn. Bulmahn openly expressed her irritation on social media.

Schmidt’s appeal prevented Bulmahn from racing alongside her boyfriend Jean Paul Bredau. After her complaints, the athlete was quickly removed from the race.

Bulmahn was originally scheduled to start in the women’s 4x400m at the Stade de France, but was again absent as Germany suffered another disappointing finish.

Bulmahn put Schmidt’s participation in the mixed relay in the spotlight, saying: ‘Yes, I am the second fastest 400m athlete on paper. No, I was not nominated for the mixed relay.’

Bredau even indicated that the absence of his girlfriend had affected his performance.

“Not everything went perfectly beforehand,” he said. “That’s why I didn’t have the energy. There were some decisions that were made that not everyone approved of.

‘The DLV made it clear: the fastest four had to drive. Another decision was made.’

Schmidt also traveled with Germany to the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo as a substitute for the 4x400m relay. Her team finished fourth, but did not participate.

Since then, she has been part of the team that finished fifth in the final of the 4x400m relay at the 2022 European Athletics Championships.

In 2017, she was crowned the ‘world’s sexiest athlete’ by Australian magazine ‘Busted Coverage’ and received a huge increase in her social media following.

Schmidt currently has over five million followers on Instagram.
