Hospital network Alfred Health in Victoria has digitized the medical records of its cancer patients into Oracle’s oncology EHR solution.
WHY IT IS IMPORTANT
Alfred Health finds Oracle Oncology to be extremely valuable in streamlining pharmacy processes, pushing order information directly from the EHR to the pharmacy management system. It also generates barcodes for each treatment, making it easy for nurses to verify that a prescribed medication is going to the right patient and in the right dosage.
“By fully digitizing cancer treatment information and making it easily accessible in our EHR, we can more efficiently guide patients’ overall treatment plan,” said Erica Tong, Chief Pharmacy Information Officer at Alfred Health.
Additionally, Oracle Oncology provides access to clinical trial capabilities and allows you to track the progress of trial participants.
THE BIGGER TREND
The hospital network has improved the efficiency of its pharmacy processes. It has introduced electronic prescriptions into its EHR system, which are delivered as a barcode and presented to a local pharmacy for dispensing.
Alfred Health has also integrated access to the national real-time prescription monitoring system with Oracle EHR, Safescript. Allows clinicians to review the prescribing history of patients who develop signs of drug dependency.
In addition, it was one of the first hospitals in the country to link the digital vaccination data from the EHR to the national registry, Australian Vaccination Registry.
In other related news, Northern Health, also based in Victoria, is the latest in the region to move to digital medical records powered by Oracle EMR. The Royal Flying Doctor Service has also moved to Oracle’s cloud-based EMR system to enable near real-time sharing of critical patient medical information.
