Alexis Mac Allister has revealed what was said between Darwin Nunez and Pep Guardiola following their touchline clash following Liverpool's draw against Manchester City.

Erling Haaland gave City the lead with a well-taken finish from the edge of the penalty area before Trent Alexander-Arnold equalized for Liverpool.

The draw denied Guardiola's side the chance to break Sunderland's record since 1892, having not lost or drawn a match at the Etihad since New Year's Eve 2022.

Tensions ran high during and after the match and Nunez became involved in a scuffle with Guardiola.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was forced to get involved and diffuse the situation as both player and manager refused to back down, and now Mac Allister has revealed what was actually said.

The Reds midfielder said Latch!: 'I can imagine that Jurgen didn't understand anything (that was said) after the match. 'He asked what I said to him, but it was nothing. It was something very minimal.

'As Jurgen said: they are two very emotional people, both Pep and Darwin, and it was nothing. Darwin made a response to a comment from Pep, but it was nothing special.

'And that made me laugh too. Seeing how serious it is, of course I wouldn't laugh like that. But nothing made me laugh as much as how Darwin got angry so quickly.

'And apart from that, at first Pep thought he was doing everything as a joke, and of course Darwin was with him. It had changed his face a little then.

'It was a bit funny, the whole situation, but those are things that remain. I think they both have a lot of respect for each other and nothing was wrong at the time.”

Mac Allister continued: 'Yes (Darwin took it seriously and Pep saw it more as a joke). I don't know if I should tell you, but I'm going to tell you (what causes it). In short, they had a situation.

'I don't know if it was a corner or a cross that Haaland headed and the ball went wide of the post. Pep turned around and started saying how happy we are or something.

'Then it goes to the last bit of play, the ball is crossed into the middle and Lucho Diaz goes to head it and they save the ball. So then Darwin says to him (Guardiola): 'Ah, now you're the ones who are lucky'.

'From that moment on everything went to hell. But it was very quiet. Nothing serious.'
