AOC has criticized Columbia University for its decision to call police on an encampment of anti-Israel protesters calling on the school to cut ties with companies that profit from conflict in the Middle East.

Squad member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 34, weighed in on the Ivy League university’s threats to call out the NYPD against students after failing to dismantle their protests before the midnight deadline.

“Involving law enforcement in nonviolent demonstrations of young students on campus is an escalating, reckless and dangerous act,” she wrote in a message. message on X.

“Columbia University has threatened CUAD negotiators to call both the National Guard and the NYPD if we do not meet their demands,” the group said.

“The student bargaining team has left the table and refuses to return until there is a written commitment that the administration will not unleash the NYPD or National Guard on its students.”

The Ivy League was in its seventh day of protests Tuesday, when students staged a sit-in to demand that the university divest from companies that profit from Israel’s war and breaks academic ties with the universities.

Hirsi says she was kicked out of campus housing and banned from the dining hall after the arrest.

The demonstration escalated again on Monday during the Jewish holiday of Passover, when staff and students walked out in protest of the NYPD being called in to control the protests.

The university’s president said a group of university faculty, administrators and senators negotiated with student organizers and set a midnight deadline to reach an agreement to dismantle the encampment.

‘I sincerely hope that these conversations will be successful. If not, we will have to consider alternative options to clear the West Lawn,” Shafik said.

“The camp poses serious security concerns, disrupts campus life and has created a tense and hostile environment for our community. It is essential that we move forward with a plan to dismantle it,” Shafik said.

“I also want to be clear that we will not tolerate harassing, harassing or discriminatory behavior. We are working to identify protesters who violated our policies against discrimination and harassment, and they will face appropriate disciplinary processes.”

Shafik is facing increasing calls to resign for “handing control to the anti-Semitic fringe” and allowing “anarchy” after canceling all in-person classes until the end of the semester.
