Alex Yee secures superb triathlon gold for Team GB as he banishes Tokyo demons at Paris Olympics
British team star Alex Yee claimed a stunning gold medal with his victory in the men’s triathlon at the Paris Olympics.
Yee, who had to settle for silver in Tokyo three years ago, passed New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde in the final stages of a thrilling race and still took victory in the final minutes of the race.
He finished in 1 hour 43 minutes and 33 seconds, giving Great Britain its fifth gold medal at the Games in the French capital.
Yee was 14 seconds behind Wilde entering the final 2 kilometres of the race, but he caught Wilde and passed the New Zealander, who finished six seconds behind the Briton.
The bronze medal went to Leo Bergere from France.
