Alex Trebek gets honored with commemorative stamp by US Postal Service set to be released on July 22 in honor of birthday after death in 2020

The United States Postal Service has released the late Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek with a new stamp set releasing on July 22 in honor of his birthday.

Danger! host Ken Jennings, 50, announced on Friday’s episode of the quiz that the US Postal Service will issue a Forever stamp in Trebek’s honor.

“I’m happy to announce that the next icon to be stamped will be our very own Alex Trebek. The stamp will be officially released on July 22, on what would have been Alex’s 84th birthday,” Jennings said.

The stamp features the show’s familiar white text on a blue background and reads: “This naturalized American citizen hosted the quiz show ‘Jeopardy!’ for 37 seasons.”

Below that and upside down is the correct answer: “Who is Alex Trebek?”

The commemorative stamp featured his name above the photo and the caption “Jeopardy!” presenter and television personality 1940-2020.’.

The stamp was designed by Antonio Alcalá, an art director for USPS, using photography by Sony Pictures Entertainment and handwriting by Marti Davila, according to a release from the USPS.

The Alex Trebek stamp as a Forever stamp will always be equal in value to the current price of one ounce first class mail.

The USPS will issue the stamps starting July 22 and a sheet of twenty stamps will cost $14.60. The price of Forever Stamps will increase from 68 cents to 73 cents in July.

Pre-sales for the stamps began on June 21 at usps.com and the stamp will be dedicated on July 22 at a ceremony at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California.

On the first day of the issue, both Trebek’s wife Jean Trebek and the current Jeopardy! host Jennings.

Trebek died in November 2020 at the age of 80, and his passing was mourned by fans who called the clever quizmaster a nightly source of information and pure joy.

He had more than 8,200 episodes of Jeopardy! over 37 seasons.

The death of Canadian-born Trebek, who revealed his diagnosis of stage IV pancreatic cancer in March 2019, was shared on the show’s official Twitter account.

Trebek died peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends, according to the show’s tweet.
