Alex Scott’s solidarity with Gary Lineker sees her ‘pull OUT of presenting Football Focus’ today

Alex Scott ‘withdrew from presenting Football Focus’ today after the BBC fired Gary Lineker from Match of the Day… with ‘Kelly Somers a last-minute replacement’ for the programme.

  • Scott, who has hosted the show since 2021, will not appear today
  • The presenter joins the wealth of talent in solidarity with Lineker
  • Lineker asked to withdraw following controversial ‘Nazi’ tweet

Alex Scott, presenter of the BBC’s Football Focus, will not host the popular sports show today in support of his broadcast colleague Gary Lineker, Sun has learned.

The former England international, who has presented the show since May 2021, told the broadcaster last night that she would suspend her presenting duties in a show of solidarity with Lineker following the BBC’s decision to ask the presenter from long-running Match of the Day to ‘take a step back’ in the wake of his controversial tweet.

Scott’s role will be filled by Kelly Somers, the station’s presenter and commentator, meanwhile.

This presenter shakeup is the latest in a series of strikes since the BBC’s much-debated call to suspend Lineker.

Alex Scott is a recognizable face in the BBC’s sports coverage and his absence creates another problem for the broadcaster to resolve.

His MOTD colleagues Ian Wright and Alan Shearer were among the first to confirm that they would not appear on tonight’s broadcast, and have since received support from various commentators on the day.

The BBC announced its plan to present the program without experts in the wake of this news last night.
