‘Take it with a grain of salt and move on’: Alex Rodriguez takes the high ground in subtle response to ex-Yankees teammate Doug Mientkiewicz telling him he will ‘die alone’

MLB legend Alex Rodriguez responded to the disparaging remarks made to him by former teammate turned minor league baseball manager Doug Mientkiewicz.
Earlier this week, Mientkiewicz went on the Podcast ‘Foul Territory’ with AJ Pierzynski and Scott Braun, and verbally attacked Rodriguez’s past steroid use and personal life, even saying he would “die a lonely man.”
During an interview with Good Day New York, Rodriguez discussed several topics, including the diagnosis of gingivitis, which he touched on subtly in response to Mientkiewicz’s disrespectful words.
“There will always be people who have things to say, everyone has an opinion, but I would certainly never speak negatively about any of my teammates in public, especially someone in high school,” said Rodriguez.
“I mean look we’re almost 50 now. These should be the good old days when we look back and cringe at some of the weird things we’ve done and we’re proud of the relationships we’ve had over the years built up. So you take that with a grain of salt and wish everyone well and move on.’

During his performance, Mientkiewicz had said, “It’s painful, ‘It’s like, wait a minute, have you (forgotten) that you’re suspended for 200 games?’
“It’s like, ‘Come on, man.’ Stop. I understand.’ I played a position of power and had none. Did it cross my mind? Naturally. You’ve thought about it. But I was like, ‘You know what, I want to be able to walk when I’m 50.’
Rodriguez was suspended for the entire 2014 season for using PEDs. It was seven years before that when former high school teammates Rodriguez and Mientkiewicz played together in the Big Apple.
“I’ve always said this, he’s going to die lonely,” Mientkiewicz continued.
“This whole ‘father of the year’ thing, God bless him with his daughters, because it’s got a long way to go.”
“But it’s like, ‘You’re just trying to get to heaven right now.’ I’m still friends with my high school team. We still text a lot, not as often as we should, but we still text, group together, harass each other all the time.”
“He’s just far from it. I don’t care how good or great you become or how far your career goes, you never forget your high school boys.’
During his career, Mientkiewicz hit 66 home runs between 1998 and 2009, spanning 1,087 at bats, while also winning the 2004 World Series with the Boston Red Sox.
