Alex Jones admits she suffers with ‘terrible mum guilt’ when her TV career interferes with her home life as she graces the cover of Women & Home UK

Alex Jones has admitted she suffers from ‘terrible mum guilt’ when work interferes with her family life.

The One Show presenter, 47, and her husband, Charlie Thomson, share Teddy, six, is the eldest, Kit, four, and Annie, three.

She said: ‘I sometimes suffer from terrible mother guilt, but that’s the nature of my job. I feel extremely guilty because I can’t put the kids to bed every night. That’s why Charlie and I spend as much time with them as possible and do things they will remember.

‘Everyone has days when they are tired and would rather do something other than doing a puzzle or building a giant hole in the sand. Charlie and I work very hard and I try to teach the children the value of things.

‘I tell them that I would love to read them a story every night, but my work is happening at the time and I have to work so that we can do fun things on the weekend and eat what we eat.

She said: ‘I sometimes suffer from terrible mother guilt, but that’s the nature of my job. “I feel very guilty because I can’t put the kids to bed every night.”

“They’re too little to fully understand and it breaks my heart, but I can’t ignore it.”

Alex shared how she has learned not to feel guilty all the time and instead tries to focus on doing as many things as possible with her family on the weekends.

She said, “You can spend a lot of time thinking about it and feeling bad, or you can think, ‘Okay, I’m going to do the best job I can and then I’m going to spend all the time on a weekend away with the family.’ All I can do is do my best.’

And in dealing with the demands of motherhood and balancing it with her busy work life, Alex has revealed her own little secret that she recommends to others looking for a 20-minute escape.

She said: ‘I have also been known to drive into the Sainsbury’s car park, turn the car seat backwards, lie down and close my eyes for a while.

“People probably look at me and think, ‘What is she doing?’ but I enjoy knowing that no one will ask me anything and that I can lie there in relative silence for 20 minutes before continuing my shopping. I can’t recommend it highly enough.’

Alex revealed that while she has other ambitions and documentaries she would like to pursue, she is happy with The One Show for now.

“People always ask me what I want to do next,” she added.

Alex added: “Charlie and I work very hard and I try to teach the children the value of things.”

“I feel like saying, ‘What do you mean?’ I’m doing what I always wanted to do. Why would I long for another job?’ Of course I still have ambitions to do other things, and I love making documentaries, but they will always complement The One Show.

“I’ll stay there as long as they have me and it will always be my main job.”

The presenter looked sensational as she braved a storm in a bright orange co-ordinate with a twisted bow bralette and a high-waisted ruffled skirt.

She accessorized her fabulous ensemble with a pair of chunky gold hoops as she smiled for the cover shoot.

Showing off her stylish sense of style, Alex donned a custom pink playsuit with sophisticated padded shoulders and a plunging neckline.
