Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is ready to go big at the Kentucky Derby – with his bets leaving Alex Cooper in shock.
Portnoy, who sold his Barstool media company for about $500 million last February before buying it back for $1, headed to Churchill Downs with “Call Me Daddy” podcast host Cooper for Friday’s races during Derby Week.
Before the day started, Cooper Portnoy could be seen chuckling about the amount he wanted to bet throughout the day in a video shared by Barstool on social media.
In the video, the influencer first picks up a briefcase from Portnoy and points out how heavy it is, with the latter claiming that it contains sunglasses and “gambling money.”
After being told to bet $10,000 on a horse competing in Saturday’s Derby, Cooper then asks Portnoy how much he plans to bet in Friday’s races.

“Hundreds of thousands,” the Barstool chef replies, leaving her in disbelief. “Yes, a lot of money.”
Cooper then says, “I love the way you are, it’s just money… who cares?”
“Well, it’s like this is my entertainment,” Portnoy replied. “People are doing other things and we’re gambling, so we come in and gamble.”
In another video shared by Portnoy, the pair make a bet together for a joint split of $9,000, as Cooper jokes, “I’m never going to pay him back.”
Barstool picked up Cooper’s popular podcast in 2017 and aired it for four years before penning a three-year, $60 million deal with music streaming giant Spotify in 2021.
The Call Me Daddy podcast now has over two million followers on Instagram and just under 900,000 on YouTube, while also becoming the most listened to women’s podcast on Spotify since being signed by the company.
Portnoy, meanwhile, recently opened up about being spotted on a date with a 25-year-old blonde during Monday’s Celtics-Heat basketball game, and admitted he “freaked out” after being caught on camera.
