Australia’s newest spinner, Todd Murphy, has had very little chance to shine in The Ashes and has now fallen victim to savage disapproval from one of his own teammates.
Murphy made the tour squad as a reserve tweaker and was called up when Nathan Lyon injured his calf during the second Test at Lord’s.
Murphy bowled less than 10 overs in the third Test before being dropped completely for the fourth match in favor of returning all-rounder Cameron Green.
The spinner finally got his chance in the final Test, where he claimed four wickets in England’s second dig.
However, it seems that the Victorian bowler nicknamed ‘Harry Potter’ because of his glasses has a long way to go when it comes to earning the respect of his teammates.

After being told in no uncertain terms that the answer was no, a sheepish Murphy goes back to watching the game
As the Aussie openers worked their way to an unbeaten run on stumps on day four, the rest of the team was spotted from the balcony of The Oval.
Wicket-keeper Alex Carey watched with binoculars and at one point Murphy asked if he could use them.
What happened next was pure brutality.
Carey looked Murphy in the eye and said something the cameras didn’t pick up, but the general gist was “no way.”
The wicket-keeper looked back at the game as a sheepish Murphy pointed at him briefly as if to say ‘don’t worry’.
The ferocious moment was quickly picked up by Australian cricket fans.
“Did he give him the nah champ?” asked one.
“One of the best nah brahs of all time,” another posted.
“Bangs should take turns taking Murphy’s lunch money,” read another comment.
“Poor old Murph has been ignored for most of the series, and now this,” added another.

Despite being brushed by Carey, Murphy’s stock increases after toiling to help England bowl in their second innings at The Oval.
It means the Aussies from England will return with a better second spin option after Murphy proves he can be successful in Tests played outside the subcontinent.
Uncapped in Test cricket six months ago, the Victorian can now claim to have bagged Virat Kohli’s prized scalp four times, Ben Stokes twice and Joe Root once.
“When I got here, I hadn’t had much playing time,” said Murphy.
‘Getting in and out, it’s not easy. But it was nice today to bowl some decent overs and get into the game. I felt like I could work into it as I went along.
‘That’s the challenge of being a cricketer, especially when you come here as a second spinner. I had to get myself ready in the nets, which is never ideal.
“Going into Headingley I felt like I had. I wasn’t needed there that much and last week at Old Trafford it was what it was.’
