Alesha Dixon admits one Britain’s Got Talent act made her ‘ugly cry’ as she reveals there are ‘more Golden Buzzers than ever’ on new series
Alesha Dixon has revealed her Golden Buzzer act on this series of Britain’s Got Talent left her in ‘ugly’ tears.
The 45-year-old singer has been a jury member on the talent show since 2012 and has told what he can expect from the 17th series, which starts on Saturday.
Appears on the Hits Radio breakfast show on Wednesday, Alesha confessed that one action left her so ‘floored’ that she cried and pressed her Golden Buzzer to be sent straight through to the semi-finals.
She said: ‘My golden buzzer act has floored me this year. I often sit there and, you know, nobody wants to ugly cry on television, but I did have one of those moments because I just couldn’t hold back.
“I always think that if you have the opportunity to give someone that special moment and spread the message of what they do on a larger scale, that’s a really good reason to give someone a golden buzzer. So I’m really glad you see that.’

The 45-year-old singer has been a judge on the talent show since 2012 and has told what to expect from the 17th series, which starts on Saturday (pictured on Tuesday)
Appearing on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show on Wednesday, Alesha admitted one act confused her so much she cried and pressed her Golden Buzzer to send them straight through to the semi-finals.
She added that the rules surrounding the Golden Buzzers have fallen by the wayside since Bruno Tonioli joined the ITV show last year.
Before Bruno arrived, the judges – plus presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly – were only allowed to buzz once per series.
However, this year Alesha, Bruno, Ant and Dec, Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden will each get the chance to choose two contestants to gift the buzzer.
Alesha admitted: ‘[There are] more Golden Buzzers than ever! Since Bruno joined, the rules have gone out the window.
“I think there might be eight or nine in this series!” This year Bruno even broke the Golden Buzzer on the first day of filming!’
One act that wasn’t immediately passed on, however, was an attendee who tried to curry favor with Alesha by covering her hit The Boy Does Nothing.
She confessed: ‘You know, we had someone on Britain’s Got Talent this year who did his own version and I hated it.
‘No golden buzzers, because they did it in a kind of heavy metal, very aggressive. And I thought: no, make it stop.’

Fans in recent months got their first glimpse of the judges selecting their Golden Buzzer acts.
Britain’s Got Talent has released a clip of Simon, Alesha, Amanda, Bruno, Ant and Dec excitedly hitting the button on the judge’s desk.
Ant and Dec can be heard saying: ‘The Golden Buzzer. There is no feeling like this. You never know who it will be, or when it will happen. If so, it just feels good.”
A variety of acts can be seen throughout the clip, from singers to circus acts, and from comedians to dancers, among others.
The judges are shown celebrating and clapping as they each press their Golden Buzzer, interspersed with footage of the audience jumping to their feet and shouting behind them, as the words ‘Britain, you’re golden’ are displayed on the screen.
It comes after it was reported that more than half of the acts, who have already progressed to the semi-finals after receiving the golden buzzer, are not from Britain.
Speak with The sunsaid a TV insider: ‘People know the show often features foreign acts – some of which are downright brilliant and in many cases win the competition.
‘But it is a surprise to think that the top players who are forwarded on golden buzzers often come from other countries.’

In 2020, 25 percent of the artists were already known or previously appeared at shows from other countries.
Auditions for the latest series of the ITV competition kicked off in London in January, with three Golden Buzzers taking place on day one.
Without wasting any time, Simon, Amanda and Bruno all pressed the button, with Bruno throwing the show into chaos by breaking it.
An insider told The Sun: ‘Bruno was almost brought to tears when he saw his golden buzzer dance act, and was the first to hit the button so hard it cracked.
‘He was followed shortly by Simon, who forwarded a Japanese dance act to the live shows.
‘And finally, Amanda was so impressed by a theater singer that she wanted to take a chance in the live rounds. She was the last one to press the buzzer.”
