Alejandro Garnacho ‘agrees a new five-year contract at Manchester United’ after a great season with Erik ten Hag, with only the teenager’s image rights remaining to be resolved

  • Alejandro Garnacho is reportedly close to agreeing a new long-term deal
  • The Manchester United talent could sign a new five-year contract at the club
  • The only apparent area that still needs to be worked out is regarding player image rights.

Alejandro Garnacho is getting closer to signing a new long-term deal at Manchester United after an agreement in principle between the player and the club was reportedly agreed.

Garnacho has been United’s rising star this season, transforming his pre-season status as a plucky youngster with an apparent attitude problem into United’s next superstar talent.

The Argentine has knocked the bums out of the seats at Old Trafford through his direct run, trickery and goal-scoring ability, talents that United believe make him eligible for a new contract.

Negotiations have been underway for several months with Garnacho’s current contract due to expire in 2024, however new terms appear close to being finalized as reported by ESPN.

Garnacho has apparently agreed a five-year contract with the club and the last stumbling block before putting pen to paper is a problem related to the player’s image rights. However, that is not expected to be a concern.

Apparently, Garnacho has reached an agreement in principle that will keep him at the club until 2028

The 18-year-old will benefit from a significant salary increase that will take him from a youth system salary to a first-team salary after emerging as a key figure in Erik ten Hag’s squad.

Garnacho has thrived in the spotlight and seems unfazed by the expectations surrounding him and early comparisons with some of the best players in the club’s history.

Both parties involved in the contract discussions are supposed to be keen to complete the new deal as soon as possible to avoid distractions arising at a key point in the season with United still competing in four competitions.

The energetic winger made 25 appearances and scored three goals in all competitions for United’s senior team this season after his impact was quickly recognised.

Meanwhile, the search for a new owner for Manchester United is expected to intensify after the parties submitted their offers to buy the club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Britain’s richest man, has launched an effort to buy United from the owning Glazer family, while there has also been a serious big-money move launched by investors in Qatar.
