Alec Baldwin uses a cane to help him walk as he’s seen for first time since hip replacement surgery

Alec Baldwin revealed that he used a cane to help him get around during an outing in New York City on Friday.

It was the first time the 65-year-old actor had been seen in public since undergoing hip surgery late last month.

His wife Hilaria Baldwin, 39, shared a photo of him recovering in a hospital bed after surgery, which she said had been ‘long overdue’.

Despite needing a cane, the Beetlejuice actor — who doesn’t appear to be reprising his role in a sequel to that 1988 comedy — looked like he was able to stay active after his medical issues.

Baldwin used a forearm crutch, which includes a cuff that goes around his forearm and a handle that protrudes horizontally from the metal shaft.

The design offers improved stability compared to a traditional cane, and it also helps to contest weight more evenly.

The Departed actor kept his look pretty casual for the short outing with a charcoal gray button-up shirt.

He unbuttoned several buttons at the top, exposing his black T-shirt underneath, and wore his left sleeve open to accommodate the crutch’s arm cuff.

He paired his shirt with black slacks and shiny black leather loafers.

Baldwin was also seen with a thin black jacket in his free hand, and his salt-and-pepper hair combed back and swept to the side.

Rather, he seemed to be in good spirits when his wife revealed at the end of May that his surgery had been successful.

“Alec got a hip replacement today…it took a long time,” the mother of seven of Baldwin’s eight children wrote in her caption as she posed next to him while he was still wearing his hospital gown.

She noted that the surgery was necessary to help improve his “quality of life.”

“We’ve been through so much together…as your partner and as you heal, I so want you to put this very intense chronic pain chapter behind you,” she added, before thanking his nurses, doctors and other people who would care for her. give for him after surgery.

The lovebirds share seven children – Carmen, nine; Raphael, seven; Leonardo, six; Romeo, five; Mary, two; Edward, two; and Ilaria, eight months — while Baldwin also shares his eldest daughter, 27-year-old Ireland Baldwin, with his ex-wife Kim Basinger.

Despite his recent health problems, the fallout from the deadly set of Baldwin’s western film Rust continued even as he recovered.

On June 1, a judge approved a settlement he reached with the son of film director Halyna Hutchins, who was shot dead on set. The settlement had already been reached in October, but was delayed until a judge approved it.

The settlement results for the child were kept confidential.

Hutchins was killed when a gun belonging to Baldwin was fired during an on-set rehearsal, and the explosion also injured film director Joel Souza, though he survived his injuries.

Baldwin has maintained that he never pulled the trigger on the gun, which should not have contained live ammunition at any point during production.

In April, New Mexico prosecutors dropped the involuntary manslaughter charge filed against Baldwin.
