Alec Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will be charged with manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

New Mexico 1st Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and Rust Special Prosecutor Andrea Reeb announced the charges in a written statement today.

Both Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed face a maximum of 18 months in prison if convicted. Dave Halls, the assistant principal, pleaded guilty to one count of negligent use of a deadly weapon.

‘If any of these three people, Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed or David Halls, had done their job, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today.

“It’s that simple,” said Andrea Reeb, the special prosecutor’s appointee for the case’s prosecutor.

Baldwin has not yet responded to the charges. He hasn’t been seen today, but his glamorous wife Hilaria put on a brave face for the school run shortly before the announcement.

Baldwin is seen on October 21, 2021, after speaking with investigators about the fatal shooting.

Assistant director Dave Halls and gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. He pleaded guilty to a single count of negligent use of a deadly weapon and she was charged with manslaughter.

“The evidence clearly shows a pattern of criminal disregard for security on the ‘Rust’ set.

“In New Mexico, there is no room for movie sets that do not take our state’s commitment to public safety and gun safety seriously,” he added.

Prosecutors have not formally filed the charges, they will do so by the end of the month.

‘There is a very clear process to seek justice in this case. We are committed to upholding the integrity of that process to ensure equal justice under the law,” added Carmack-Altwies.

After that, the three defendants will have to make a first appearance but they will be allowed to do so virtually.

Baldwin, 64, accidentally shot and killed Halyna Hutchins on the set of the western film in October 2021.

In the 15 months since, he has emphatically denied responsibility for the accident, insisting that he did not pull the trigger, despite the fact that an FBI forensics analysis of the prop weapon he used concluded that he did.

Baldwin was sued by Halyna’s widower, Matthew, in 2022, but settled the suit for an undisclosed sum.

It also made Matthew an executive producer on the film, which will resume production in Los Angeles.

Prosecutors have resisted criticism over the long delay in making a decision.

They say they were forced to wait for reports from both the FBI, which took ten months, and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, which took a year.

There was no press conference to announce the decision today.

Instead, the prosecutor’s office issued a written statement to the media that was also posted online.

Along with Baldwin, several others were on the hook for the charges.

They are assistant director Dave Halls, who gave Baldwin the gun for the fatal scene, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, a young ‘careless’ gunsmith who was in charge of loading the guns and checking that the bullets were blunt and not live, and Seth kenney. , the loneliest of the group, who was the owner of the prop shop used by the production.

Hilaria Baldwin leaves her New York apartment Thursday as she awaits a decision from Santa Fe prosecutors on whether her husband, Alec, will be charged in the Rust shooting.

Halls has never spoken to the media, but she sued Baldwin last year and denied liability.

Gutiérrez-Reed repeatedly denied responsibility in a series of statements by his attorney.

Kenney has been the quietest, shying away from the fierce public attention on the case.

But in his first interview with police, he immediately blamed the incident on Gutierrez-Reed.

“She wanted to shoot live ammunition with the guns, the guns from the TV movies. I said no, obviously. And then she acknowledged.

“Bottom right, you saw where she said I’m going to get you off mine now,” he said, referring to the text messages between the pair.
