Aldi’s latest special purchases are driving ‘madness’ of long customer queues before the stores were even open

  • Saturday morning bargain hunters lined up outside the shops
  • Discount supermarket offers are always popular

Bargain hunters across Australia began lining up outside Aldi stores as the popular chain unveiled its latest wave of ‘special buys’.

The German discount supermarket, known for its cult following on social media, launched a range of kitchen essentials on Saturday, featuring cast-aluminum pots ranging from $22.99 to $29.99, alongside new bowls, knives, air fryers and pressure cookers.

The new range is only available until stocks run out and was advertised online and in catalogs a week in advance.

It was seen on social media that customers were already queuing for their respective Aldi before the stores opened on Saturday morning.

‘Aldi really has to set a limit for customers!! It was a frenzy!!,” posed a customer from Sydney’s Western Suburbs.

“Fortunately no one was hurt except for a few heated arguments.”

An image shared on Facebook showed more than 50 people leaning on empty shopping carts outside the closed supermarket.

The middle aisle of the discount supermarket has yielded mega bargains for the most unexpected items.

Aldi has been present in Australia for more than two decades, since opening its first two stores in Sydney in January 2001.

The chain expanded rapidly, overtaking IGA to become the third largest player in the Australian supermarket industry by the end of 2013.

Aldi’s “special buys” — discounted items not normally sold in supermarkets — have remained a fortnightly draw for shoppers in its now more than 500 stores across the country.
