Aldi shuts down rumours its taking on Coles and Woolworths by launching online shopping in Australia

Aldi Australia has addressed rumors that the store will launch online shopping in the coming months.

It was reported on Tuesday that the store had big plans to continue development of its website to compete with Woolworths and Coles; a rumor that has been shut down by the company.

Attributing ALDI’s Director of Customer Interactions, Adrian Christie told FEMAIL that the company is “closely monitoring e-commerce opportunities as we aim to maximize customer convenience,” but confirmed there are no forthcoming plans.

‘We believe that, especially now, it is our fundamental responsibility to keep the price of customers’ weekly groceries as low as possible.’

“One of the key ways we can offer the highest quality groceries at the lowest prices is our streamlined business model that focuses on simplicity.

Aldi Australia has broken its silence over rumors it will launch an online shopping service. The speculation was quickly quashed and an online launch is not the current priority for the company (stock image)

“While we always look at the environment and consider an online experience, we will not bring this up until we have a model in which the associated overheads of e-commerce do not in any way compromise our ability to deliver low-priced groceries to Australians .’

For now, customers can still keep up to date with Aldi’s ‘Special Buys’ and offers on the website, but an online delivery service will remain unavailable.

It comes after a customer was left hysterical last week when she saw a bizarre Special Buys ad for a new folding exercise bike at the store.

Bec Brewin, from Melbourne, was eager to purchase the $169 “Special Buy” and searched Aldi Australia’s website for details.

However, she did not expect to come across a video advertising the engine, which shows it casually spinning between the planets and stars, with exaggerated commentary.

Has anyone actually been to Aldi’s website? The reason I’m asking is because I was just looking up this bike,” Bec said in a TikTok video.

“I’m interested, but I need to know the dimensions… and this is what I found.”

She then ran the ad and it went viral almost immediately.

The humorous video was described by other customers as “genius” and a clever ad, probably made by someone “from Gen Z.”

It began with a shot of what appears to be the Milky Way galaxy, before the narrator says, “Space.” A special place where the vacuum makes everything silent, making us wonder: ‘Does the sun fizz when it burns? Do the planets sing as they revolve?”

“And are they singing about… Aldi’s foldable exercise bike for only $169?” the voice continues and the product appears on the screen.
