Aldi Australia shoppers are stocking up on new $4.99 food item: ‘It is elite’

Aldi shoppers are obsessed with a $4.99 item from the supermarket chain’s frozen section.

For this limited edition item, two bestsellers, hash browns and onion rings, are combined into one snack.

The ring-shaped ‘hash browns with onion’ are described by shoppers as elite.

“I’ve had these, they’re pretty good,” one woman said.

“I loved these – put soft-boiled eggs on top,” one woman suggested.

“Cries in gluten free,” another said on the video, sad to miss the treat.

Some were confused by the concept.

“So are they more hash brown or onion ring,” one person asked.

Others were quick to comment on a similar item found in the freezer section.

“The potato jewels also have onions in them, they are so tasty,” said someone else.

But others who rushed to buy the rings said they were disappointed.

“I went out and got these and there was no onion in them, they were just fried potatoes with holes in them,” one woman complained.

In the video, the customer turned the package over to reveal the nutritional information, which made some viewers laugh.

“Macros are the last thing I need when I’m looking at hash brown onion rings,” one man said.

Shoppers were previously impressed by another limited-edition food item from the German retailer.

The giant pretzels, which are stocked every year ahead of Oktoberfest, were a big hit.

The $6.50 bakery item was described as “tasting like the real thing.”
