Aldi Australia meat price: Supermarket now selling beef mince in plastic bags
Aldi buyers see major product change in supermarket meat shelf: ‘I had no idea’
- Aldi minced meat is now sold in bags
- The bags used less plastic than the trays
Shoppers have noticed an intriguing change to the meat aisle at Aldi stores across the country, with the supermarket chain now packaging its 500g ground beef in bags instead of plastic containers.
The change was made in an effort to reduce plastic use and is being rolled out in meat departments across Australia.
In late 2022, the Jindurra Station 2 Star Beef Mince was sold in bags rather than trays in select stores in New South Wales and Queensland as part of a 12-week trial.
Thanks to the success of the trial, more Aldi meat products will soon be available in the updated trays that use 70 percent less plastic than trays.

The change is part of the retailer’s commitment to reduce plastic packaging by 25 percent by the end of 2025.
Customers are getting used to the new packaging, one of them says she overlooked the product and initially thought there was no more minced meat.
A Gold Coast shopper told 7NEWS they were ‘surprised’ by the bags because they had never seen minced meat sold in them.
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw it, I was so shocked,” they said.
“It’s a game changer and makes perfect sense. I used the whole package for dinner that evening and there was much less packaging to throw away.’
