- Found ‘unresponsive’ at the hospital on Thursday evening
Legendary Australian comedian Barry Humphries – best known for his role as Dame Edna Everage – has been hospitalized in an ‘unresponsive state’.
Humphries, 89, was found unconscious at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney on Thursday night, his family reported, ABC Radio Sydney reported.
Entertainment reporter Peter Ford appeared at Sunrise Friday morning to provide an update on Humphries’ deteriorating condition.
“This is consistent with the information I received yesterday that Barry’s pain started to increase, so in turn they (doctors) have started giving him more morphine,” he said.

“It certainly puts you at ease, to put it nicely.”
“Barry is in an increasingly dangerous state of health.
Humphries was hospitalized earlier this week following post-operative complications following a fall in February.
His family, including his four children, has been rushing to his hospital bed in recent days.
The entertainer — known for his drag alter ego Dame Edna Everage — issued a jovial statement on Wednesday through his publicist thanking fans and well-wishers.
“Barry would like to thank everyone for the support and best wishes he has received, but he wants more and more,” the statement read.
His wife Elizabeth Spender told Nine News that he was “doing well.”
It has been revealed that there are “serious” concerns for the artist during his hospital visit The sun.
By Wednesday, Ford had said “it’s hard” and asked fans to send their love to the man who has made them laugh for decades.
“At the moment, Barry is in a serious condition, but he is being kept comfortable. He is surrounded by family,” he said.

Throughout his career, Barry has met and charmed most of the royal family, from the late Queen Mother to King Charles III.
He has toured all over the country, including in the UK, for the past year.
Humphries fell and injured his hip in February after tripping over a rug while reaching for a book.
At the time, he said he hoped to get back on his feet in time for another one-man show to be held later this year.
‘I need to get back on my feet… I’m going on tour again later this year.
“The result of my broken hip means I now have a titanium hip…you can call me ‘Bionic Bazza’,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald in March.
The star said his medical bill is “damn huge” and added, “I highly recommend not breaking your hip!”
Humphries has been married four times and has four children: art dealer and journalist Oscar, actress Tessa, Rupert and Emily.
He lives in London with his wife Lizzie Spender, but has been spending time in Australia since December catching up with old friends, such as painter John Olsen, who passed away earlier this month.
