Alan Shearer says Erling Haaland will DESTROY his and Andy Cole’s Premier League record of 34 goals in one season…
- Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City beat Southampton on Saturday
- The Norwegian striker now has 44 goals in 38 games in all competitions
- Alan Shearer says Haaland will destroy his and Andy Cole’s league records
Alan Shearer has claimed Erling Haaland could finish the season with 60 goals after the Manchester City striker continued his remarkable goalscoring season against Southampton.
The Norway international took his total for the season to 44 goals after netting a brace against the Saints as Pep Guardiola’s side closed the gap at the top of the Premier League to five points in a 4-1 win.
Shearer, the league’s all-time top goalscorer with 260 goals, believes Haaland will ‘destroy’ his and Andy Cole’s record of 34 goals in a season and could score another 14 goals this season.
In his column for The athleticShearer wrote: “If you built a centre-forward from the ground up, there would be Erling.
As I wrote last May, he is a goalscoring machine, someone who is quick and direct, physically strong and good in the air, who can score with both feet and whose positioning is fantastic.

Alan Shearer says Haaland could finish the season with 60 goals and break even more records
“If I’m being super picky, the ball might bounce off him if he occasionally goes to him in terms of connection play, but other than that I don’t see any weakness in his game.
City have at least 12 more games this season and possibly four games at the top. If he can keep fit, Haaland will shatter the Premier League record I share with Andy Cole of 34 goals in a single season (he is only four behind) and with his current average in all competitions of 44 in 38 appearances, he will will storm past 50.
Even that can do him a disservice. Who knows, we’re even talking about 60 and Dixie Dean territory. Scary.’
Jumping high to meet Kevin De Bruyne’s cross, Haaland opened the scoring for Guardiola’s side as they cruised to victory at St Mary’s on Saturday.
After the break, Haaland continued his unprecedented goalscoring form by adding a second with an acrobatic finish in the penalty area, marking his 30th goal of the season after just 27 appearances.
The brace also means that Haaland is now just two goals away from tying Mo Salah’s incredible 2017-18 season, which saw the Egyptian set the record for most goals by a single player in a 38-match Premier League season.
The former Borussia Dortmund star is also on course to top Shearer and Cole’s 34-goal seasons in 1994-95 and 1993-94 respectively, with both scores coming in a time when the top flight consisted of 22 teams.
