Alan Shearer calls Harry Kane ‘the best’ and tells him ‘he deserves success’… with the striker poised to surpass the Newcastle icon’s record in the Premier League
- Harry Kane has completed a £100 million transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich
- He leaves the Premier League 47 goals off Alan Shearer’s scoring record
- Shearer sent a message to Kane after announcing his move
Alan Shearer has hailed Harry Kane as ‘the best’ after the England captain secured a £100 million move from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich.
The news was officially confirmed on Saturday after a dramatic Friday in which Kane finally flew to Munich to undergo his medical and finalize the deal.
One man who should be content with his move is Shearer, who is likely to retain his Premier League scoring record, with Kane leaving the division 47 behind Alan Shearer’s tally of 260.
After completing the move, Kane tweeted, “Have been given an incredible welcome to me and my family in Munich over the past 24 hours! Buzzing to have signed for such a huge club with an incredible history, can’t wait to get started!
In response, Shearer put aside his jokes about the scoring record as he remarked, “You’re the best Harry.” Good luck. You deserve success.’

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has told Kane he is ‘the best’ and wished him luck
It comes a day after Shearer took to social media and jokingly told the 30-year-old to leave Tottenham.
The 52-year-old shared a photo of herself being mocked as an airline pilot, accompanied by the photo with the caption, “Come on Harry, it’s time to go!”
It has been hotly debated whether Kane should leave the Premier League to win trophies with Bayern Munich, or stay with Tottenham to break the BBC pundit’s goalscoring record.
Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand took to social media to express their opposing views on the debate between awards and silverware on Thursday.
Alan Shearer’s PL goalscoring record is much more talked about than his PL winners medal. That record will be huge for HK,” Carragher wrote on Twitter.
“The big advantage of going to Bayern is the guarantee that he will play CL football and have a chance to win that trophy every season. It’s not about their domestic trophies, they’ll win them anyway & I’m sure he’d rather have the PL record than the Bundesliga!’
Moments later, Ferdinand waded into the debate and struck a different tone.
“You don’t start your (sic) career saying you want to be the golden boot winner – you want to win things for your team,” he said.

“You only make it personal honor if that’s your only option! Good luck @HKane.’
Kane’s move to Bayern Munich shows his desire to win trophies, having won none in his time at Tottenham.
In his first interview with the club, Kane highlighted Bayern Munich’s “winning culture” as a strong factor behind his move.
