Alan Carr’s ex Paul Drayton slams comedian for claiming he’d won ‘custody’ of Adele amid divorce
Paul Drayton, Alan Carr’s estranged husband, has criticized the comedian for claiming he won ‘custody’ of their friend Adele amid their ‘messy divorce’.
The comic, 46, and his Party Planner husband announced their separation in January 2022, after 13 years together and three years of marriage.
And despite claiming they’re still friends, Paul has taunted Alan over his comments about the superstar after they reportedly “divided their famous friends,” with Paul claiming Adele was “closer to me” than Alan.
While Paul was previously tight-lipped about his divorce from the TV star, he is now speaking out in response to Alan’s comments on an episode of 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown last August, where he referred to their split.
Alan claimed he was given ‘custody’ of Adele – who married the couple in 2018 at her California home – during their divorce, while also suggesting that Paul had taken ‘half of everything’.

Speak against The sun on Sundaysaid Paul:Adele is one of my best friends and the truth is she was closer to me than Alan. The comments he made were in bad taste. They really upset me, to be honest, because there was also the suggestion that I was greedy.
“I texted Alan afterwards and said, ‘This is not okay, it upsets me and it upsets my mum.'” He then confirmed that the Chatty Man star was unresponsive.
Paul continued, “I sent Adele the same clip and she replied, ‘Just take the high road, baby,’ which means just ignore it. She’s great at giving advice, she really is. I know that when I need her she will be there for me because she is a loyal friend and a wonderful person.”
Adele has been ordained so she can marry the couple at her mansion, with the singer paying for their special day as a gift.
Alan made the aforementioned Adele comments during an appearance on the Channel 4 comedy show in August, pulling out a set of props cut in half and joking that his ex’s lawyer was demanding half of everything.
He joked, “I’ve been through a really hateful, messy divorce. My ex’s lawyer said take half of everything, look at that.
“But not only that, household items. Look at this, half a kettle, half a toaster, half a fondue set. All the cheese goes all over the floor.
“Of course people want to know what . . . we’ve broken up our famous friends. I’m getting custody of Adele. Paul gets Gamble on the weekend.

Pal: ‘Adele is one of my best friends and the truth is she was closer to me than Alan. The comments he made were in bad taste. They really upset me’ (Adele presided over their wedding in 2018)
‘We’re still friends. I know he took half of everything. But the one thing he can’t stand is my dignity. Am I right?’
Paul added that he believes one of the show’s sketch writers was responsible for the “really nasty” comments.
He added that his mother was not happy about him being called “greedy” on TV, adding that this was “not the case at all” due to the suggestion that he wanted 50% of everything from their split.
Paul stressed that Adele “didn’t cut me off,” saying he and the Easy On Me hitmaker had “always been close” and that would never change.
But he stated that several of Alan’s other friends “have stopped talking to me,” which he says is understandable given the “difficult” situation.
He added of Alan that during their divorce last April they agreed what they would settle “fairly and amicably” and confirmed they are still friends who continue to share their dogs.

MailOnline has reached out to representatives for Alan Carr and Adele for comment.
Alan and his former husband Paul announced their split with a joint statement in January 2022, which read: ‘After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton are pleased to announce that they are separating.
“They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to separate and go their separate ways. We ask that their privacy be respected at this sensitive time.”
Paul then posted on Instagram that he was in rehab for alcoholism, after a “challenging few years” where he pleaded guilty to a drunk driving charge in November 2021.
