A 14-year-old Alabama boy who had a “hit list” of members of his family he wanted to kill has been arrested after admitting to shooting his 17-year-old brother.

The incident occurred in the Pike County town of Banks when deputies were called to a home on Oct. 3 after the boy’s father found the 17-year-old dead.

The boy had been missing since Monday, but had not yet reported the incident to the police.

While interviewing the 14-year-old, who has not yet been identified, he confessed to the killing and told classmates at school he wasn’t done yet, according to Sheriff Russell Thomas.

“He stated that his brother got up and staggered out of the home through the back door, where he fell at the bottom of the stairs,” the sheriff said. “He dragged it about 200 feet to the back of the property.”

“He then asked his friend to help him kill the rest of his family and help him bury their bodies,” Russell said in a statement.

“The friend also stated that the 14-year-old had a hit list in his book bag of family members he wanted to kill and made statements that he wanted to shoot up the school.”

Their father eventually discovered the body after being called to pick up the boy from school, claiming he was angry about his missing brother.

On Wednesday, police discovered the existence of the hit list in the boy’s backpack at his home and even made statements in class that he was going to shoot up the local high school, police said. W.S.F.A.

The sheriff’s office also learned that the boy had made “disturbing” and “threatening” statements at school on the day of the murder.

The local school system believes there is no evidence of a threat, but has asked for an increased law enforcement presence on campus.

District Attorney James Tarbox charged the 14-year-old with murder as a juvenile. He is currently being held in a juvenile detention center, News 3 reported.

“We’re very fortunate and blessed that we don’t have more victims because of a 14-year-old having access to a gun,” Thomas said.

However, a hearing is scheduled for next week, where a circuit judge could declare him an adult. If so, the province will release his identity.

“The Pike County School System would like to extend its deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic event,” Superintendent Mark Bazzell said in a statement.

The school plans to have mental health counselors on campus in the near future.
