Alabama coach Nate Oats says Brandon Miller’s record is “inappropriate” and insists he is “not involved in the filings” … days after the detective testified that he delivered a gun to a former teammate the night of the shooting that killed a 23-year-old. mother

Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats described Brandon Miller’s pregame introduction of being frisked by a chaperone as “not appropriate.”

After initially admitting that he had not seen the incident prior to the Crimson Tide’s 86-83 win against Arkansas, Oats opted to condemn the action, which has been a fixture in Miller’s pregame routine long before recent events.

However, it comes just days after Alabama Det. Branden Culpepper testified that Miller brought him the gun of his former teammate Darius Miles before the murder of the mother of 23-year-old Jamea Jonae Harris.

“I don’t watch our presentations, I’m not involved with them, I’m making plays during that time,” Oats said after the game.

‘Regardless, it is not appropriate. It has been addressed and I can assure you that it definitely won’t happen again for the rest of this year.’

Brandon Miller was ‘patted’ by a teammate before playing for Alabama on Saturday

Miller (No. 24) was playing days after it emerged he was involved in a situation in which a 23-year-old mother was shot to death.

Miller scored 24 points and added six rebounds as he continues to bid to be a top-five pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

The school said Wednesday it had investigated the situation further and cleared Miller to play South Carolina that night. Miller was not charged in the shooting death of Harris on January 15.

“UA Athletics continues to fully cooperate with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation of this tragic situation,” Alabama said in a statement this week.

“Based on all the information we have received, Brandon Miller is not considered a suspect in this case, only a cooperating witness.”

Culpepper testified that Miles texted Miller on Jan. 15, asking his then-teammate to take his gun to an off-campus area. Miller allegedly complied, turning the gun on Miles and Davis.

When Miller arrived on the scene, he allegedly contacted Miles in a text message, writing that “the heat is in the hat” and adding that “there’s one in the head,” according to Culpepper.

As the detective explained, Miller was allegedly indicating that there was a gun in a hat inside his car with a bullet in the chamber.

On Tuesday, Tuscaloosa Deputy District Attorney Paula Whitley told AL.com they couldn’t charge Miller with anything.

He continues to play and star for the No. 2 nationally ranked team, scoring a career-high 41 points, including the game-winning 78-76 overtime goal against South Carolina.

Head coach Nate Oats said the university has taken the matter seriously since the details emerged.
