Today’s show’s Al Roker has shared his secret to staying fit and healthy, months after opening up about battling a food addiction ‘that’s unlike any other.’
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com on Tuesday evening during the network’s special Start Today event celebrating the launch of its new health and wellbeing app, the 70-year-old weather presenter revealed he’d like to take a walk.
Al revealed that he has a goal of walking more than 10,000 steps every day — and that he even wakes up extra early to make sure he’s on track to reach his goal.
“I’m trying not to get confused. “I just like working things in,” he said. “That’s why I like walking.”
Al continued, “You can walk to other places to do things.
“I mean, I was a little behind, but normally I would have taken a walk to the subway.
“I would have walked from home to the subway and walked here. Today I took 15,000 steps.’
Explaining how he manages to achieve his daily goal, Al said, “I get up in the morning and try to walk a mile before I leave for work on a treadmill.
Al Roker from today’s show has shared his secret to staying fit
The 70-year-old weather presenter revealed to DailyMail.com that he would like to go for a walk
“Today I had a doctor’s appointment, so I walked to the doctor, walked back to work and walked home. I have a treadmill desk in the building.”
Al’s motto is ‘something is better than nothing.’
In November, Al opened up about the realities of battling food addiction, admitting that he “don’t judge anyone” who turns to weight-loss drugs like Ozempic to shed the pounds.
‘I’m not going to judge anyone.
“Listen, it’s unlike any other addiction or dependency.
“You can live without alcohol, you can live without cigarettes, whatever the drug of choice is… but you have to eat, and so it’s just hard for some people,” he said.
“If this is what works for them, I mean, who are we to say, ‘Oh, don’t do that.’
‘As long as it’s safe and effective, it’s good for you. I think everyone’s journey is their journey.”
Al said he pushes himself to walk more than 10,000 steps a day, and even has a treadmill desk in his office
Al underwent gastric bypass in 2002 after his weight reached 340 pounds.
The weather presenter admits he loves walking as the Today show launches its brand new health and wellbeing app Start Today.
The app is packed with weekly and monthly fitness challenges, customized meal plans by registered dietitians, and daily inspiration and wellness tips from leading experts.
Users can easily track their progress, create grocery and shopping lists, and save recipes and meal plans.
