Al Roker divides the internet with his Rose Bowl Parade appearance – as some viewers claim he ‘ruined’ the event while others declare they ‘won’t stand’ for ‘slander’ against Today host

Al Roker has divided the internet over his Rose Bowl Parade performance – with some viewers claiming he “ruined” the event, while others declared they “will not put up with” slander against the Today host.

The acclaimed weatherman, 69, covered the annual New Year's parade with his fellow Today star, Hoda Kotb, for NBC — but as Al commented on the parade, some people on the Internet were not amused with his banter.

Formerly known as Twitter, X was flooded with messages criticizing his constant jokes and one-liners.

Some people branded his comments “criminal,” “irritating” and “exaggerated” and said they switched to broadcasting the event on another channel because of him, while others defended the longtime TV star.

The Rose Parade began in 1890 and takes place every year on New Year's Day in Pasadena, California.

It leads to the coveted college football playoff game at the Rose Bowl. This year, the Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Michigan Wolverines.

The theme of this year's parade was Celebrating a World of Music: The Universal Language, with performances by Jordin Sparks, Michelle Williams, Destiny's Child and David Archuleta.
