Al Roker, 68, sends a VERY brutal punch to the critic who accused him of ‘FAILING’ his 21-year-old son by making him an ‘unhealthy’ breakfast: ‘Thanks for your concern’
Today, host Al Roker hit back at a rather harsh critic on Instagram after criticizing a tasty-looking meal he cooked for his son Nick.
Al, 68, took to social media on Wednesday and shared a plate of food consisting of a cheese omelette, three strips of bacon and a fresh croissant, as well as a glass of orange juice, in a snap.
The meteorologist had prepared breakfast for his 21-year-old son to enjoy after a workout, but one of his followers suggested he “let down” Nick and should have prepared something healthier.
“You may be labeling his midlife crisis diet a failure,” the Instagram user wrote. “Maybe a scrambled egg without cheese, whole grain toast with seeds and tomato slices?” Just a thought.
“Dietary habits are hard to change. Coming from a gal who grew up on biscuits and gravy, ham and beans, and buttery cornbread,” they added.

The comment did not go unnoticed by Al, who decided to react and defend both himself and his son’s eating habits.
‘Thank you for the concern. He had just returned from a three-mile run. Then he did a :30 Platoon. Works as a gardener at a local baseball field, comes home, does another run, and eats very sensibly for lunch and dinner. He makes great choices,’ Al replied.
The woman was clearly shocked by Al’s reaction and wrote back, “I didn’t mean to be critical. Just a mother of 4, grandmother of 8 and already around the block with eating habits.
“He’s young and can absorb it all. I’m talking about eating habits and how hard it is to break when you can’t anymore. Did that. And as you always promote on the Today Show, eating habits are hard. It’s lifelong learning,” she added.
Many of Al’s other followers heaped praise on him when one commented, “You’re the best dad,” and another commented, “I want to have breakfast with Al every morning.”
A third person quipped, “Omg if I was Nick I’d never leave the house,” and a fourth added, “Healthy and balanced! Dear father!’
Al is no stranger to posting pictures of food on Instagram and likes to show off the meals he has prepared.
It was revealed earlier this year that he used the “exercise snacking” method to stay in shape after his life-threatening health scare in late 2022.

Health scares: Al spent a total of four weeks in hospital late last year after suffering from blood clots and internal bleeding
Al is an avid walker, but had been relying on small bursts of exercise throughout the day to reach his fitness goals prior to knee replacement surgery he underwent in April.
“My knee was shot,” he previously admitted to Today in March. “I haven’t been able to walk normally.”
The weatherman said he sneaks in motion whenever he can, and Today contributor Jill Martin noted that he even walks during meetings.
Research has shown that exercise snacks – short bursts of exercise throughout the day – can improve fitness and overall health.
Al was facing a life-threatening health scare late last year after suffering from blood clots and internal bleeding.
He underwent emergency surgery lasting nearly seven hours to treat two bleeding ulcers. Doctors had to remove his colon, remove his gallbladder and repair a tear in his duodenum, the first part of the small intestine that connects to the stomach.
Roker made his triumphant return to the Today show on Jan. 6 following his two-month medical leave, which included a total of four weeks in hospital.
“My doctor said the physical condition I was in because of the walking — because of the cardio — probably saved my life,” he explained.
Back then: In March 2022, Al commemorated the 20th anniversary of his gastric bypass surgery by posing with a pair of his old jeans
In the past: Al, pictured here in February 2001, weighed 340 pounds and wore size 54 jeans
Last year also marked 20 years since Al had gastric bypass surgery and said he will “never forget” how far he’s come since losing more than 100 pounds.
The weather anchor Today marked the occasion on March 15 by sharing photos of him holding up a pair of his old jeans to show he’s now half the size he was 20 years ago.
“Hard to believe it was 20 years ago today, I wore these size 54 Levi jeans to my #gastricbypass weighing 340 pounds and here I am today,” he wrote in the caption.
“It’s still a struggle, but I’m never going back,” he added. “I have setbacks and struggles every day, but I never forget how far I’ve come.”
