Airline passenger’s ‘awkward’ flight left her so scarred she’s ‘never going to recover’

A passenger on a plane was sitting in the front row, facing the other passengers. This left her so ‘scarred’ that she ‘cannot recover’.

Jess Smith posted a video on TikTok showing her sitting in her first row seat on a flight to Greece, looking out at other passengers.

She didn’t specify which airline she was flying, but she seemed uncomfortable sitting directly across from the others.

“If you book row one as a treat, but it turns out you’re facing the whole plane,” Smith said. “You’ll never get over that.”

People felt sorry for Smith because of the backwards seats and agreed that this would be their worst nightmare.

β€œI would really ask to get off and cancel my ticket. My anxiety could never do that,” said one.

β€œThis is similar to something irrational that I experience in a bad dream,” said another.

β€œI got so anxious and accidentally made eye contact with so many people,” said a third person.

A fourth person said: β€œThe whole plane being pointed at me the entire flight sounded like my worst nightmare.”

Others had suggestions for Smith on how she could use the situation to her advantage.

β€œI would grab a notepad, stare at each person for a few minutes, and then scribble notes furiously, alternating between fits of giggles and angry scowls. When things get awkward, I go my own way,” one person said.

“At that point I would be in my own world pretending to be an undercover air marshal. I would have lived a whole life in my head by the time we landed,” said another.

Zach Griff, a senior aviation journalist for travel blog The Point Guys, told Fox News that a chair facing backwards is not so unusual.

He said that in the United States, American Airlines and United offer rear-facing business class seats in some models and that this arrangement is more common abroad.

Of United Airlines’ 945 aircraft, 23 are equipped with optional rear-facing business class seats.

β€œOf course, sitting facing backwards in economy class is an uncomfortable experience,” Griff said.

β€œI encourage travelers stuck in these types of seats to bring an eye mask and perhaps some reading material or other entertainment to distract them from what is sure to be an uncomfortable experience.”
