Two separate shootings in Queensland have left one man dead and another hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the chest.

A man in his 20s, allegedly armed with a knife, was shot and killed by police in Airlie Beach in the Whitsunday region of Queensland after allegedly threatening police.

According to police, the man approached officers on Shute Harbor Road in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He then allegedly threatened them, pushed them forward and then shot them.

Officers at the scene provided first aid and the man was taken to Proserpine Hospital, but died shortly after.

A crime scene has been identified and the investigation into the incident continues by the Ethical Standards Command under the supervision of the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Meanwhile, a man was shot and killed in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast around 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Detectives say three men were walking along Ferny Avenue when they were shot at from a passing vehicle.

A 20-year-old man from Brisbane suffered a non-life-threatening chest injury and was taken to hospital.
