Airbnb is cracking down globally on properties being used for New Year’s Eve parties by banning some guests from making one-night reservations for December 31.
Anti-party restrictions will take effect over New Year’s Eve weekend in 11 countries: US (including Puerto Rico), Canada, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain, UK, Ireland, Portugal, and the Netherlands .
The stricter rules are being implemented following a successful trial last year, Airbnb said.
It explained that it is introducing restrictions on certain types of reservations to “cope with disruptive parties,” with a ban on one-night bookings of full house listings for guests without positive account history or no prior reservations.

The home rental site added: ‘We are also introducing stricter restrictions for the same guests trying to book two- and three-night reservations, with an emphasis on attempts to book locally.
“This broader rollout follows the successful testing of these automated defenses in eight countries over the past year as part of our efforts to help enforce our global party ban, which we codified earlier this summer.
“We estimate that the measures have contributed to a year-over-year drop in NYE party incident rates of approximately six per cent in the UK, since the fenders were first tested in 2020.
“Last year, approximately 340,000 guests around the world were blocked or redirected from trying to book on Airbnb over New Year’s Eve, including more than 34,500 guests in the UK.”
