Air steward reveals the three RUDEST things passengers do on a flight

  • A member of the cabin crew has debunked the three most annoying things
  • So if you follow these directions, you won’t be labeled as an annoying flyer

Flight attendants have a lot to put up with during a flight – from making sure all passengers are well looked after to adhering to health and safety regulations.

But according to a cabin crew member, there are a few rules that passengers really need to follow to avoid being labeled a rude or obnoxious flier.

So here are behaviors and actions to avoid on your next flight, especially when trying to get a flight attendant’s attention.

Don’t touch a flight attendant

Touching a flight attendant is “something you should never do,” said the cabin crew member, who spoke to The sun.

They claim to have been “poked, prodded and even pinched” while trying to do their job.

They went on to say that there are a myriad of ways you can get an air steward’s attention without encroaching on their personal space.

So if you want their attention, it’s best to be patient. But if you feel like your efforts are being ignored, a gentle tap on the shoulder will do the trick.

They added that “besides touching us, don’t yell at us or treat us as if we were your servants.”

There is no need to shout or act lawfully

The cabin crew member says that unless there’s a real emergency, you shouldn’t raise your voice during the flight because it’s “incredibly rude and obnoxious.”

While indicators such as whistles, clicks, or kisses to get the cabin crew member’s attention are far from ideal, they do give some passengers the benefit of the doubt, as these actions may be based on cultural factors rather than rudeness.

The flight attendant explained that: “Not everyone speaks English and they all have their own ways of contacting flight attendants.”

However, they added that demeaning words or actions are completely unnecessary.

Using the call button is the most annoying

The last obvious point is the cabin crew call bell above your head.

Flight attendants say they “abhor” this because it means either one of two things – a “coke or a stroke.”

The seasoned flyer explained, “Every time someone presses the button, it could be a drink, or it could just as well be a medical emergency.”

Therefore, they advise passengers to use the call button only when there is something very important to pay attention to.

They also add that if the flight attendant is not immediately visible in the aisle, you should get up and look for them to help you – unless it’s a real emergency.

Getting up to look for them is also a good way to avoid unnecessary panic, especially “when all they need is a beer.”

Also, the call button is not an interactive toy, says the flight attendant, which is why parents should prevent their children from touching it.
