Air hostess debunks plane myths from drinking tap water to opening blinds for takeoff

There are a lot of rumors and rules about what you can and can’t do on an airplane.

Now a flight attendant has debunked some of these myths, including whether you can drink the tap water in the bathroom and why the blinds should be left open during takeoff.

Stewardess Brodie Capron, who posts on TikTok as @brodie.capron, shared a video setting the record straight.

The video has been liked more than 56,000 times and followers have praised her for being honest about what happens on the plane, with many saying they “actually learned something new.”

In the quick TikTok video, Ms Capron added that she is also regularly asked if ‘everyone’s pee and poop goes straight into the air’

Many wondered if you can only drink bottled water during flights, as rumors are circulating on social media that the filter on airplanes is not cleaned regularly

She started the video by saying, “Get ready with me as I answer some of the questions I often get as a flight attendant.”

Many continued to wonder whether you can only drink bottled water on flights, as rumors are circulating on social media that the filter on airplanes is not cleaned regularly.

But Ms Capron clarified this by saying that the tap water from the airline she works for, Virgin Australia, is safe and clean to drink.

She said, ‘Is the water safe to drink? Yes there is. It’s filtered and it’s clean.’

Ms. Capron then went on to answer questions about why flight attendants need to know that shades are clear for takeoff and landing.

She clarified this by saying, “Because you can see the engines and we can’t, so you have to let us know if anything happens.”

In the quickfire video, she added that she’s also regularly asked if “everyone’s pee and poop is going straight into the air.”

“No, it goes into a waste water tank and is emptied as soon as we land,” she reveals.

A big safety question she’s often asked, she said, is why people need to put on their oxygen masks before they can help others.

TikTok users thanked Ms. Capron for debunking the myths. One social media user said, “You calmed my intrusive thoughts about opening the plane door while flying”

Mrs. Capron said, “That’s because you won’t be very useful if you don’t carry oxygen.”

The flight attendant also reassured people about a common question asked to cabin crew.

Can the doors open during flight? Look, unless you have superhuman strength, no.’

And with the baggage tax, many travelers may wonder why their bags have to be a certain size and weight, as the flight attendant said, “It’s because the lockers can only hold a certain amount of weight.”

To debunk whether you get drunk faster on an airplane, Ms. Capron said, ‘Yes, because of the lower percentage of oxygen in the air.

“The effects of alcohol are greater.”

She also warned passengers at the end, saying, “So make sure you make good choices when you fly.”

In the comments on TikTok, people thanked Ms. Capron for debunking the myths.

One social media user said, “You calmed my intrusive thoughts about opening the airplane door while flying.”

A second wrote, “Huh, I actually learned something new. Nice. thanks for the knowledge.’

Someone else said, ‘I love it!! Thanks for the information!!’

And another said, ‘This is actually very interesting. I learned a few things today, especially the windows!!’

One user urged her to create more content that debunks airplane myths, writing, “We need more content for flight attendants.”

While others had more questions, they desperately needed an answer, as one person wrote, “This is actually interesting, but one more question why are you only sutcase (sic) a certain amount of liquid aloud.”

And another person asked, ‘How come the weight of checked baggage, if you exceed that limit, how come you can put the clothes on instead it’s the same weight on the plane????’
