Air date for Neighbours reboot revealed

Airdate for Neighbors reboot revealed – as the soap announces same-sex couples will be joining the cast to ‘better reflect the beautiful LGBTQIA+ community’

Neighbors will be back on the air in a few months.

The long-running soap, which was canceled last year, will return to screens in September, where it will air on both Channel Ten and Amazon’s Prime Video.

Among the new cast members coming to Ramsay Street is a same-sex couple with two children, the Varga-Murphy family.

Wives Cara and Remi are played by actresses Sara West and Naomi Rukavina, while their two sons, JJ and Dex, are played by Riley Bryant and Marley Williams.

“I’m so honored to be part of the new Neighbors legacy and I’m really looking forward to bringing the Varga-Murphy family to Australian and international screens,” Sara West said in a statement.

“I hope having the Varga-Murphys on tele will help better reflect the wonderful LGBTQIA+ community I’m proud to be a part of and can’t wait to share the family with you!”

In her own statement, Naomi Rukavina added, “I’m thrilled to be a part of the new Neighbors legacy.

“As a stalwart force of Australian drama television, the show is at the forefront of presenting diverse and genuine representations of Australian families, not in a token way,” she said.

With Neighbors returning to our small screens later this year, the cast has been hard at work filming in the fictional Ramsay St.

Filming on the rebooted series began in April and fans have got a glimpse of which characters will be returning, as some of the actors were photographed filming the show in Melbourne last month.

Some of the soap’s biggest stars were spotted filming scenes for the upcoming season.

Annie Jones (Jane Harris) Scott Major (Lucas Fitzgerald) and Ryan Moloney (Jarrod ‘Toadfish’ Rebecchi) were accompanied on set by newcomer Costa D’Angelo.

The sequel of the long-running soap opera follows the million-watched finale in 2022.

Cameras started rolling for Amazon's revived Neighbors on Monday, and the series should return to screens by the end of this year. Pictured are Neighbors cast members Alan Fletcher, Lucinda Cowden, Rebekah Elmaloglou, Stefan Dennis and Annie Jones

The show was thought to be over indefinitely after Network 10 in Australia took the ax on July 10, 2022.

Channel 5, the show’s home base in the UK, also dropped the soap that month.

The series now airs for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US and includes streaming rights to thousands of episodes from previous seasons.

The series is streaming on Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
