Aintree officials join forces with police to beef up security for the Grand National despite animal rights protestors saying they have no plans to disrupt the race

  • Last year the race was postponed for 15 minutes and more than 100 people were arrested
  • Protesters climbed fences and tried to glue themselves to fences
  • Aintree Security plans for ‘all contingencies’ to ensure smooth operations

Aintree say their security team will continue to work with Merseyside Police and ‘plan for all contingencies’ ahead of the Grand National, despite animal rights group Animal Rising saying they have no plans to disrupt the race.

The 2023 Grand National was postponed for 15 minutes as Animal Rising supporters scaled the fence and attempted to glue themselves to the Grand National fences.

More than 100 people were arrested and Animal Rising staged another protest on Derby Day in June, when Ben Newton, one of the group’s founders, ran onto the track as the race started.
