My husband is 25 years older and we were engaged after 2 weeks of dating – I knew I’d met my soulmate so there was no point waitig

A 30-year-old woman, who looks young for her age, admits that her much older husband is often mistaken for her father.

When Kayy Mackenzie, 30, met 54-year-old decorator Davey Mackenzie in a pub in 2019, the pair hit it off instantly, despite their 25-year age gap.

After just two weeks of dating, Kayy and Davey got engaged and married in December 2021.

But Kayy, a musical performer from Epsom, Surrey, is often mistaken for her husband’s daughter when they are out on dates.

She explains: ‘The restaurant staff see us together and say how nice it is to see a father and daughter dining together.

Kayy, a musical theatre performer from Epsom, Surrey, said the pair hit it off instantly when they met in a pub in 2019

‘They always look so shy when I tell them we’re married.’

The couple first got chatting in a pub, where they discovered they were both equally ‘down to earth’ and enjoyed having a pint and dancing together.

Kayy added: ‘When we first met, he said he saw me as soon as I walked in and thought, “That’s the woman I’m going to marry.”

‘Later we got to talking when I saw him on the dance floor. He was so nice, and he seemed really cool and younger than he is.’

Kayy first moved in with Davey just two weeks after they met in 2019.

When the UK imposed a lockdown in early 2020 to control the Covid-19 pandemic, Kayy found Davey.

While it was a learning process for both partners to spend the pandemic together so early in their relationship, a bond quickly formed between the couple and it soon became clear to Kayy that Davey was the one.

When Davey surprised Kayy by getting down on one knee during a day trip to London, she didn’t hesitate and said ‘yes’.

While Davey has three children from his previous marriage, all of whom are in their early twenties, his family has accepted his relationship with Kayy and they all get along well.

Kayy said, “I knew he was my soulmate, so I didn’t see the point in waiting.”

Kayy added: ‘It took a while for his family to convince him about a relationship because of the age difference.

“But now there are no more problems. When we see each other, we get along well.”

Kayy explained that despite the generation gap, she and Davey complement and learn from each other.

She said: ‘He brings a lot of wisdom from his life experience, and I teach him modern things, like how to use his phone properly.

‘He brought me down to earth as a person.

‘When I’m upset, I no longer keep silent or get irritated, but have learned to talk to him about it.’

They have plans to move ‘somewhere on the coast, near the beach’ soon and would like to have children in the future.

Although Kayy thought Davey was younger than him when they first met – and he thought she was older – they never worried about the age difference.

Kayy explains: ‘I was surprised at first when he said he was almost 50, but I didn’t care at all.

‘I have never considered age in relationships. I have always wanted a man who is older than me so that he can take care of me.

“Funnily enough, he thought I was older than I am and I thought he was younger! But age doesn’t matter to us, it’s just a number.”

She added: ‘Davey just had a lovely personality, he was very loving, caring and accepting from the start, and that’s what mattered.’

Davey said: ‘I first felt drawn to Kayy when I saw her come into the room. She looked so beautiful and loving.

“There was something about her that always made me think, ‘Wow, she’s the one.’”

“We don’t notice the age difference. Love is love, not numbers. We actually have a very similar attitude, she is an adult.

‘At first I was sometimes ashamed of being mistaken for a father, but now I don’t care so much anymore. I actually find it funny.’

‘We are very affectionate and understand each other like no other.

‘We’re always laughing and joking and always there for each other no matter what.

‘People have tried to attack our relationship in the past, but we have always remained unbreakable.

“We are very strong and very happy.”
