One-time AFL player turned NFL star Arryn Siposs has revealed the brutal way he was sacked by the Philadelphia Eagles after a crucial mistake in last season's Super Bowl.

Siposs, 31, called his departure “businesslike” and added that cleaning out his locker in August “wasn't fun.”

The punter was also dropped by St Kilda in 2015 – confirming the level of compassion was very different down there.

“From an AFL point of view, they try to work something out for you at a later stage, or you talk about things you can work on and why they made that decision and all that,” he told SEN Radio on Thursday.

'In the US I go in to meet the GM (General Manager) at the Eagles and it's basically just 'all the best, we're moving with someone else and good luck'.

NFL gambler Siposs had a brutal moment playing in the Super Bowl in February that cost his team dearly

“(It was) probably one of the shortest encounters I've had in my entire life. And then, of course, cleaning up the locker process afterwards is never fun.

“It's very, very short and sharp and very, very business-like, for sure.”

After a game-defining error in February's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Siposs was on borrowed time.

A bad kick by Siposs in the final quarter of the game was returned by Kadarius Toney to within easy reach of the goal line, helping the Chiefs score the game-winning touchdown en route to an epic three-point victory.

Siposs played 32 games for the Eagles but was waived by the club before the start of this season and was added to the practice squad before being released in September.

He tried unsuccessfully for a spot with the Arizona Cardinals before choosing to return to Melbourne with his wife and daughter with the aim of working in the AFL.

The 31-year-old was set to coach VFL club Williamstown but has instead secured a development coaching role at Hawthorn under head coach Sam Mitchell.

Siposs scored 22 goals in his 28 games for the Saints before turning his attention to college football in the US with Auburn

“Arryn joins our club with significant experience and perspective after exposure in two high-performance environments, in the AFL and the NFL, which we believe will greatly benefit our program,” said Hawthorn General Manager Football Rob McCartney in a recent club statement.

“We see him fitting in extremely well with our talented young roster and helping to develop players both on and off the pitch.

“We believe our entire coaching team is well balanced to further develop our young roster and give them every opportunity to succeed.”

Before beginning his NFL journey in the US, Siposs played 28 AFL games for St Kilda between 2011 and 2015.

His massive right boot made him an instant success in college at Auburn before Siposs was picked up by Detroit as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 NFL draft.

He immediately experienced the cutthroat nature of American football when he was fired and re-signed three times within seven months of joining the team.
