AFL star Sam Docherty and his wife Natalie have welcomed their first child, a girl, following their highly publicized battle with cancer.

The couple announced the news via Instagram on Sunday and shared a cute photo of their daughter before revealing her name.

The pair were quickly praised by fellow AFL stars and fans.

‘Congratulations Nat and Sam! She is beautiful,’ wrote WAG Jesse Murphy.

Nat said she was lucky to have an easy pregnancy without suffering from morning sickness.

Carlton star Sam put the misery of cancer treatment behind him when he returned to the AFL in March last year.

His return was eight months after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Nat spoke to the Herald Sun on Sunday about Sam’s return to the pitch in March, which was met with huge applause.

“It seems that everything is back to normal,” he said.

‘Round 1 when he kicked a goal was incredible and there were so many moments during the season where you realize it’s more than just a game. It’s a community and everyone has been very supportive.’

In particular, Sam has developed a bond with fellow cancer survivor Ben Cunnington of North Melbourne and his wife Belinda.

Sam opened up about his battle with cancer in an Instagram post shared in October 2021.

He was forced to undergo chemotherapy at age 27 for the deadly tumor.

“Over the past few months I have been overwhelmed by the support I have received from so many,” he wrote on Instagram.

“I wanted to thank everyone who has reached out to me and appreciate the kind words and gestures.”

Docherty ended up raising $50,000 for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Center.
