The AFL star leaves his team dietitian outraged when he reveals that he replaced all his water intake with MILK, and has been doing so for three years!

  • Jason Gillbee revealed a strange drinking habit to his teammates
  • The 19-year-old has been hydrating with milk instead of water
  • The possible reason is his need to add bulk to his 76kg frame.

GWS Giants rookie Jason Gillbee shocked his teammates and stunned the team’s dietitian by revealing that he has been drinking milk instead of water for the past three years.

The shocking news was announced on the team’s Twitter account Thursday in a post showing the 19-year-old drinking straight from a two-liter bottle of his favorite beverage.

“Every Monday during this preseason a player has been asked to bring three items that are important to them as a means of finding out something new about their teammates,” the post explained.

“It is this particular week that the GIANTS players learn of the shocking revelation that freshman Jason Gillbee replaced all of his water intake with milk three years ago.

‘”mel [club dietician Melissa Juergens] he wasn’t happy when he found out,” he says to the stunned faces around him.

Gillbee excelled as a winger/runner for Bendigo in the NAB League in 2022 and the Giants’ online profile on him claims he is a ‘prolific ball winner’ who can ‘take the game with his run on the ball’.

He also placed first in the 2 km time trial at the Draft Combine with a time of five minutes and 54 seconds.

With the onballers at Aussie Rules running an incredible amount, rehydration is paramount, so it’s a mystery how the new recruit was able to stick to a diet with so much milk.

However, one possible explanation for his dependence on the drink is his need to gain muscle.

Gillbee stands 191cm tall but weighs just 76kg, and he’ll need some curling in the flesh to prepare for the rigors of an AFL season spent crashing into and through opponents.

Drinking milk after strenuous exercise, especially after lifting weights, can be beneficial as it contains whey protein and carbohydrates, plus saturated fat that will help underweight people increase their body size.

That was expressed by one of the people who left comments on the Giants post.

You need to en masse. I challenge “Dietitian Mel” this is an excellent move…may not replace all the water, but certainly a gallon of milk a day is worth it,’ they wrote.

Other football fans chimed in calling Gillbee the ‘Calcium Kid’ and advising the team to stick with ‘milk challenge content’.

The rookie hails from Balranald in the Riverina district of west-central New South Wales but moved to Bendigo to further his football career.

The GWS website describes him as a ‘great character’, and going by his surprise confession, they are not wrong.
