Revealed: Global superstar set to headline AFL grand final entertainment in $5million deal

  • Katy Perry to headline AFL final
  • The 39-year-old Roar singer will reportedly pocket $5 million
  • There has been mixed performance in recent years

The entertainment for the AFL Grand Final has been revealed, with a superstar set to perform at the MCG later this year.

Every year, the events leading up to the match are closely watched, and that will be no different on September 28, when two football teams will compete for the game’s biggest prize.

Robbie Williams’ performance at the 2022 Grand Final was a huge hit with fans, while Meatloaf’s performance in 2011 was a flop.

And according to News Corp, another American superstar will be attending this year’s biggest football match: Katy Perry is set to play the lead role.

The 39-year-old American sensation is known for hits such as Roar, Teenage Dream and Firework and can also be seen in Menulog commercials.

She performed at the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup final and is reportedly set to earn $5 million for singing at the grand final in September.

“Expect that to be announced in the coming weeks. The AFL has been in discussions with Perry’s management over the last few months,” Jay Clark said on Fox Footy.

‘The AFL wanted the biggest names to headline their end of year showpiece event and Katy Perry, it has to be said, is one of the best female artists in the world. I think 50 million downloads a month on Spotify.

“She will be the lead role unless there is a last minute somersault.”

Perry was in Melbourne earlier this year to perform at a private event hosted by billionaire businessman Anthony Pratt.

“The Toyota AFL Grand Final performances in recent years have been world-class and we are delighted to once again deliver a spectacular show ahead of the biggest match of the season,” said AFL spokesman Jay Allen.

‘We will be able to make an announcement shortly regarding Telstra entertainment ahead of this year’s match.’
