AFL Gather Round crowd for Essendon v Melbourne raises eyebrows after ‘sold out’ claims
Are you sure, AFL? Eyebrows raised as Adelaide Oval stands are virtually EMPTY ahead of Essendon’s clash with Melbourne…despite the league claiming all Gather Round matches are sold out
- The AFL has been called out over its ‘sold out’ Gather Round claims
- It was claimed that tickets for all nine matches were sold out
- Daily Mail Australia provides the latest international sports news
The AFL’s claim that all Gather Round matches have been sold out has been called into question after fans noticed many empty seats at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon.
Footy fans have descended on South Australia for the inaugural ‘Gather Round’, with all nine games played in Adelaide this weekend.
Earlier this week, AFL House confirmed that tickets had sold out for every game of the round, with Adelaide Oval set to host a double header with Port Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs on Saturday to follow Essendon’s game against Melbourne.
And it didn’t take much attention to see that very few fans showed up for the bombers’ clash with the Dees, raising eyebrows over the bare ground scenes.
But the AFL insists it expects more fans to be in the stands for the night game between the Power and the Dogs. A ticket to one of the weekend’s double-headers gives the ticket holder access to both matches, meaning those planning to go to the Power match only need not attend the earlier match.
Careless. fans flocked to Twitter to voice their opinion that it was a bad look for the AFL.
