AFL fans react to Collingwood captain Darcy Moore after his girlfriend said they don’t want to live together

Darcy Moore and his girlfriend’s living situation is the talk of the AFL, with fans calling the Collingwood captain ‘woke’ and blaming his unorthodox relationship for his shocking drop in form.

Moore’s girlfriend Dee Salmin, who presents sex education show The Sunday Hook Up on Triple J, caused a stir earlier this week when she explained in a podcast why they don’t live together.

Many fans said Salmin’s long-winded explanation of why they live apart — complete with feminist buzzwords and therapy language — made them roll their eyes.

“I don’t live with my partner at the moment. We have such different, independent and busy lives,” Salmin said.

‘We get so much more in our relationship of what we had when we were single.

“But I wonder how much of that you can actually keep up once you end up living together. So much of it is heterodynamic learned behavior that you can fall into.”

Her comment about “heterodynamic learned behavior” sparked a storm of criticism on social media.

Collingwood loyalists had mixed reactions, with some even linking Salmin’s comments to Moore’s poor performances, leading football analyst Kane Cornes to call boldly for him to be demoted to the VFL this week.

Others found Salmin’s interview simply confusing because of her use of baffling, progressive terminology.

Sky News Australia presenter Rita Panahi reposted a link to an article about the Salmin interview. In the caption, she wrote: “Heteronormative learned patriarchal behaviour,” along with a series of mocking emojis.

Meanwhile, one irate fan wrote online: ‘No wonder Darcy Moore is so bad. His head is full of woke, politically correct, feminist bullshit.’

“The sex has to be a lot better than spectacular to put up with that nonsense,” added another.

“This guy has to be the most woke footballer in history,” wrote a third.

“I’m looking forward to the ‘heteronormative, learned, patriarchal behavior round,” one fan wrote with a wink.

Some jokingly theorised that Salmin’s revelation was merely a way to distract from the Collingwood star’s worrying dip in form in 2024.

“What Darcy is really trying to say is, ‘I’m in the biggest form slump of my career and this year I’ve had a major competitive slump so I need a distraction,'” one fan wrote.

A Magpies supporter defended Moore, citing former Geelong captain Joel Selwood, who wrote in his biography that he and his wife Brit slept in separate bedrooms during the football season.

But another replied: ‘Selwood did it for football reasons.

‘Darcy Moore is doing it as some kind of new age nonsense. What the f*** is heteronormative learned patriarchal behavior?’

Others defended the couple, pointing out that the practice of the “marriage bed” was a modern innovation, not a tradition.

“It’s a good thing these two never opened a history book, or they would have discovered that separate beds for married couples were commonplace for about a century before the 1960s,” one wrote.

Others suggested that it could simply be a matter of getting a good night’s sleep because one (or both) partners snore.

“I’ve been married for 25 years and my wife and I usually sleep in separate rooms. We call that heteronormative, annoying snoring,” one of them said.

The Magpies won the championship last year and have had to battle a wave of injuries to maintain their flag defence.

They take on the recovering Hawks as they look to prove they belong on the big stage at the MCG on Saturday.

“If you want to motivate yourself more by saying it’s a final, then by all means do that,” Collinwood coach Craig McRae said.

‘But we are very motivated for round 19 and we have to put our best foot forward.

‘This week it’s Hawthorn and we’re going to take them on with our best foot forward.’
